I picked up my Buell Race Belly Pan Friday. Looked simple enough to install, just drill the holes, get some spacers and longer bolts and on it goes!!!

NOT exactly... Mocked up the belly pan it right away saw trimming would be in order. Well, I don't have a grinder or simular cutting tool. Luckily a buddy is home and he has one. Load up the bike and all the parts and head over. Got the trimming done, and re-fit. Dang kickstand is in the way! Can't get the kickstand off without removing the muffler. My friend doesn't have the irght tools to get the muffler off. The trim job looked good enough, so I loaded up and went home.

Once home, I removed the kick stand and prepped the pan for drilling. I then figured out the length of the bolts and spacers I needed and took a quick trip into town. I located my parts an returned home.

Mocked the pan up again and determined drilling points. I drilled the top two holes on each side, lined up the bolts, put the spacers in place and was feeling a sense of accomplishment... then I noticed the belly pan was hitting the front tire! Off comes the pan, relocated the holes and back on. IT FITS!!!

Now to drill the rest of the holes. The one on the lower left side of the bike was slightly off and I had to enlarge the hole a bit. Once the bolts are in, I check my clearances... touching in a couple spots... No grinder, done for the day.

Next day, get the grinder from my buddy. After several on-off sessions with the pan and I put it on for the last time. I thought I would only use four mounting points, but then decide I better use the front lower hole on the right side for extra support. At this point, I am getting smart. I use a piece of cardboard to mock up the holes on the right side. Got it done, bolt everything back up and off it comes for more trim work....

8 hours over 2 days and it is done!

Have you looked at the pan available at www.catalystracingcomposites.com. It looks like it literally bolts right on. No fabbing required. It isn't cheap $226. But I hear their stuff is very high quality.

Lighting,

It is the factory Buell Race Belly Pan which was purchased from my primary sponsor Gainesville H-D/Buell. You need a race license to purchase it and it would require extensive modification for street use.

Tattoo,

The Catalyst Racing one looks sweet, but pricey!! However, if I need to replace the one I have, I will probably get that one.

Mike,

I might get with you on those eye grommets, or I may try and find some fender washers.

Thanks for the info Laird, looks like I will get Donny to order me he Catalyst racing Bellypan. Not worth the aggravation and Donny can probably work me a deal on the Catalyst.

Still need to send my paper work and MONEY to CCS.

I ain't there yet Marty, so far all I have done is talk, need to stop that and start getting things in motion. :o:o

Did get down to Homstead a few weeks ago, damn that is a different track from JenningsGP, kept banging off the rev limiter. The faster tracks you are limited by the stock gearing.

email me the code from the bike or raise the rev another 300 rpm thats all you can go.

peek rev on a stock 12 is 7600 max. your at 7250

also let me know i have all the sources to get you the chain drive. then it makes life easy. plus it frees up hp. less resistance on the driveline.

total is about 200.00 you may get it less i cant get chains that cheap.
vortex for the rears, pbi for the fronts, hals speed shop for the replacement idler roller rubber roller type works great you dont need the sprocket type and chain of choice. reuse the tensioner arm flip it and get a small turn buckle to make it swing hanging from one bolt.

no special parts needed.

you will want three chains total for sprocket lengths. you will also want a 21 front and 22 front
rear a 52,50,48

thats all the ratios you should need!

a 22 front and 48 rear you wont be banging the rev any more.

start out with a 22 front and 52 rear. it doesnt take a lot sometimes. best bang fastest changes get a 21 front and 22 front to start 52 rear 520 chain parts. you can swap the fronts on those with out a new chain length. thats for the older swing arms the shorter ones. the newer ones you will need to check that. you may need odd number rear sprockets.

dont get stamped chains you need to be able to take it off use the c-clip type

Thanks for the info Mike, I was having issues comming out of 6 to 7 at Homestead, there is a short section when you are still leaned over a bit but you are accelerating fairly hard and it was tough to get the old toe under the shifter, one spot that GPshift would have been an advantage.

Thanks for the chain info also, I know we talked on this a while back. As I recall there was some issues with chain lengths with certain sprocket combinations.

If you don't mind I will keep the RPM bump in the back pocket right now. Will be usefull later on. (Probably to keep up with Laird..............)

Thanks Mike. ;)
