OK well it looks like my '04 12R needs an upper frame (gas tank), at least it is dented below the puck. Is that dent probably OK? If it needs replacing, does anyone know if I can use a newer frame without a snorkel hole? Or is there more than that diff?
Also primary cover, clutch adjustment cover, left foot controls/traction peg, oil cooler, chin fairing, frame pucks, mirrors, clutch/brake levers, turn signals. Probably the tubular engine mount bars. The L&R scoops aren't fitting.
Not sure about forks or swingarm (have to learn to check), maybe a belt and idler pulley (looks like the idler pulley might have cut into my Drummer a tad?)
What are the things that ought to be thrown out no matter what, and the things that are probably OK even if they look bad? Just curious, what are the things that would total a Buell?
Thanks in advance!

How about some pictures.
I'd say if the frame is bad it is totaled, especially as an 2004 model.
The fact that ALL that other stuff is NOT linning up tells me you have bigger problems than just your frame.

Actually I only wandered around the bike taking pix. It's in the towing co's area which they sublet from a junkyard. Their main business is repo. Had to get an appointment to see my bike. If it's a sure thing it won't be totalled, I'd have it moved to a repair facility where they could start work and I could quit paying storage.
Basically it looks like she hit me and the bike, then the bike went into free flight.
I'm just wondering if a dent in the frame right under the left puck means anything necessarily (besides lowered resale potential).

If nothing is lining up it is most likely twisted. The dent alone will total a buell as the labor to replace it is expensive.
Then there is the part of having a stealership do this work, They have a tough time replacing spark plugs with out screwing something else up at the same time, letting them fix a totaled bike is REALLY asking for it in the worst way.
If it were me, I would walk away from the bike, take my loss, and get another one.

Dido... my buddy traded his Kawi 636 bike for a "cracked" Kawi 1000 Ninja... he replaced the frame but the serial numbers were'nt right so now he can't get it registered since it is considered a "custom" bike and his insurance dropped him. He traded the guy not knowing it was cracked.. he ended up weilding plates over the crack and putting the orginal frame back on and is trying to sell it. He is going back to a 636. Waste of time for him cause he has the money
Besides the ladies company will buy u a bike right. Just take it to a dealership to have them state it is "totaled"

I got a lot of answers about Kaws and such but never got my Q answered. Let me try this again:
I got hit riding my '04 12R. The upper frame (gas tank) is dented below the puck.
Do I need to replace the frame?
If so, can I use a newer frame without a snorkel hole (what is that, 2007 or 2008)?
Or will it not fit? Is there more difference than just the snorkel hole between years?

I've been riding my '06 Uly with a significant dent/gouge in the left frame under the puck for about 24000 miles now. No issues other than ugly. The bike is straight, though

Thanks for the info.
The hit that created the dent, was it a straight-in punch from a vehicle, did the bike get dented during a fall, or what?

Based on my experience the Buell frames cannot be repaired once they are dented/gouged. If you want the frame fixed it will need to be replaced. The frame costs $1,100 from a dealership and it can take up to 3 months to get in. Buell will place the correct VIN on the frame. My dealership charged me 6 hours labor to swap the frame. So for just a straight up frame replacement you will spend around $1,700 at a dealership.

Do I need to replace the frame? YES
If so, can I use a newer frame without a snorkel hole (what is that, 2007 or 2008)? I HAVE NO IDEA
Or will it not fit? Is there more difference than just the snorkel hole between years? ASK A BUELL DEALERSHIP
There you go I answered your questions..:)
