As the topic says what did you ride before the Ulysses. Currently I have a VFR but the wife won't ride on back. Thinking about the Uly as it seems to have great passengar accomidations. Any thing about or from passengars would be appreciated as well.

I had a 90 883 Sportser Hugger with a 1200 kit. It was nice bike but I wanted something more sporty and off roadable and the Ulysses' is just what the I had been looking for.

I had a 2003 Firebolt. Got the Ulysses because I got too tall.

and a VTX 1800 before that

2003 Suzuki Bandit 1200S. Lotsa power, pretty looks, and smooth. Now it's lotsa power, ugly, and not-so pretty (to most). It's a great handler compared to the ol' Bandit.

R1150GS, too bulky and awkward really, but a nice ride, and comfy. Terrifying off road if I forgot to turn off the ABS, which was often:eek: . Sold it.
XR650R plated and farkled. Very fun urban assault machine, way too big and heavy for tight woods work but a real joy on singletrack, turns, fireroads, etc. I would not describe it as a comfy road bike, but darn comfy dirt bike. Gotta sell it; there is just so much a boy can maintain...
KDX220 for the woods, tweaked the compression damping a bit, gave it a purple-ectomy, tall saddle, new piston, and it absolutely rocks on 99% of the woods riding I do. Keeper.
Wife's R100LS (not a typo, it started life as a R65LS), balanced rebuilt R100 motor, regeared rear drive to match. BUB R80 pipes. Very fun Triumph-sounding classic bike, very smooth. Keeper.
Past:
KLX300. I did many farkles, including a pumper carb and suspension, then sold it. One of my more bone-headed moves. It was a great woods bike.
R80G/S that I put XR600 forks on, Honda front brake and oversize rotor, Works rear shock slightly relocated. Selling it was another boneheaded move. I should have kept building it into something awesome.
R100RS. I put many miles on it, she went to Canada twice, it was rather comfy with a peerless fairing. I guess I just got bored with it really. Good bike.
Ducati 750 F1-A. Bought it when Ducati's future was very much in the balance, it might have been the last real Ducati. HA! Mediocre suspension, wonderful handling, great if mild motor, beautiful. It was a real ticket-getter, and single purpose to the extreme. Good thing I sold it.
Before these, lots of bikes, few worth mention.
The Uly has the best qualities of all of the above (except dirt bikes of course), in a truly multipurpose naked package. Can't find ANYthing not to like about it.

I have a 1972 Honda Trail 50. It was my first bike; I got it when I was 7. 23 years later I still have it. In fact, I rode it the morning I bought the Uly.

So Mighty One, a 72 Honda 50, if I remember correctly, was the old mini-trail 50 with no rear suspension but a really thick seat. I still remember speed shifting into second gear and lofting forever wheelies!! I'm suprised I don't see more of those as I didn't think you could kill them!:D
I've listed my list of bikes elsewhere in this forum so I won't repeat it here but will say my Uly replaced a Cagiva Gran Canyon that is now for sale. The Cagiva is an awesome machine but the comfort for my long legs was better satisfied by the Uly.

I had a 2003 VFR800Fi (V-tech). It was too slow and heavy for me; but it was comfortable. I had Laser Extreme exhaust on it, so I got lots of looks too. I now have a SV1000S, but that will go when the '08 Uly arrives. The SV is a good bike, but not comfortable enough for me on long rides.

I like the Buell a lot more now that I have something to go with it.

Sold my 2003 Suzuki Bandit 1200 (naked) a few weeks ago. Great bike. Super reliable. Terrific bang for the buck. But I wanted to be able to ride fire/gravel roads with my GS buddies. Makes camping more enjoyable.
Had a 1997 Sportster Sport a few years back. Did a lot of work to it including installation of a Buell Thunderstorm top end.

Big. Ungainly. Scary when the ABS engaged on dirt roads, and it was inconvenient to disengage. I don't know how folks ride these on trails, and I am an old dirt rider.
Before that, an R80 G/S that I modified the suspension on. The bike worked surprisingly well off-road with an XR600 front end. Felt very un-BMW-like on the road, quickened up the steering.
Before that, a Ducati F1A. Should've kept that one, and hot rodded it. Suspension was kinda crappy though.
All during that time a very reliable '82 R100RS did daily duty.
Before that, a Yamaha XV920 Euro, with the enclosed chain.
Before that, an evil handling but highway comfortable XS1100 set up for touring, metallic dark purple.
Yammie 750 triple and a 650 twin before that.
Dirtbikes:
2000 XR650R, still have it. Wonderful dualsporter.
1997 KDX220. Great woods bike. Simple.
1997 KLX300, reworked the suspension, put on a pumper carb. Should've kept that bike, it was truly a great woods bike by the time I was done with it. Why do we sell these gems?
1981 XR350R, evil handling. Broke my collarbone.
XT500. My love affair with thumpers began with this.
Bultaco Alpina 348. Great handler, motor grenaded, parts impossible.
IT175. Too pipey for woods work, and suspension was not all that great.
TS185. Rode the snot out of it. Taught me a lot as a teenager.
Bridgestone 100. My first bike.

I have 07 600rr for the track. just sold the 03 600rr for the street and a K1200S. still have an F4i that I love. wanted something different that could do it all. I sure made the right choice. picked up a barely used 07 Uly. they through on some bags and low seat for the long hauls. this bike is way to much fun!
